Painting “Chickens sow, roosters mow” (2023)
ENDLESS POEM
Chickens sow millet in the field,
Just like it's been done for a long time.
Roosters then mow millet,
Gathered for millet.
Porridge made from millet
yellow-mouthed babies...
Our chickens will grow up
become chickens and roosters -
and start all over again
everything in order...
Poem by Ivan Svitlychny
In this diptych, a rooster and a hen are depicted using decorative embroidery stitches. This introduces elements of Ukrainian traditionalism and emphasizes the national character of the image.
The use of watercolor graphics with red color emphasizes brightness and expressiveness. Red has a symbolic meaning, such as strength, energy or love.
The golden circles representing the egg symbolize life, fertility and new beginnings. The egg is an important symbol in Ukrainian culture, especially in pysanka.
This diptych creates the impression of a luxurious interpretation of Ukrainian ethnic creativity, where the rooster and hen become the central figures, and the decorative seams introduce unique motifs that reflect Ukrainian culture and traditions.
I work mainly with watercolor graphics, sometimes I experiment with oil painting and acrylic.
My artworks are a combination of natural elements, fantasy world and incredible traditions of decorative and applied art of Ukraine.
