This is my graduation work, when I graduated from the Kharkov Art College. I was 18 years old at the time. For a long time I could not part with this work, it was dear to me as a memory, as the final stage. It was in my collection. Now I'm ready to let it go. The painting uses as a quote a fragment of Marc Chagall's painting "Over the City" where he is depicted flying with his wife Bella. It is an allegory of perfect love, of lightness. Rather, even our idea of love, something idealized. At the bottom there is a couple trying to play the violin together, creating a melody, thus being an allegory of earthly love. The composition uses clear zoning, thus each of the couples has its own space. In the background, the central part is a silhouette of the city, the houses are angular and their forms are aggressive. This creates a contrast that emphasizes the fragility of the relationship. The city lives its life, everything goes its way, but even in this cycle creates something beautiful, which, I hope, from earthly love will turn into heavenly love, without crashing into the realities of life. I use different textures in this work, also the signature is on the front and back, now I only sign the work on the back.
