"Old Wounds" by Vasyl Lokatyr
There are no symbols, only work with texture. This is certainly abstract art, but it is abstractness that can appeal to the subconscious. That's why there is no specific binding, does the canvas give rise to several multidirectional ideas or still associations? For example, about the impossibility of the unity of people on earth.
The texture deserves separate consideration, the surface covered with burlap is able to give the canvas an internal tension, but at the same time make it heavier.
Is this some follower of Arshile Gorky? Jackson Pollock? Franz Klein? But only outside the canvas? It is distinguished by volume, as well as the use of coarse, coarsest of fabrics - burlap.
On top of this burlap, roughly but not tightly drawn, no, the original remains of the inscriptions, which in principle do not mean anything, are preserved. This is abstract expressionism, but done in a non-classic Jackson Polok dripping technique, here the paints are applied roughly, directly, “like this!” and from the edge to the center, black, as if thickening the situation. Plus, more fragments are hemmed, sewn, added as really “Old wounds”...
And no matter how they are sewn up, mended, the wounds ache and hurt; that is why the colors and textures are so bleak, but severe...
Directness and immediacy of expression, in the absence of aggressive energy that distinguished the classics of abstract expressionism, " Old Wounds" " on the contrary look like a tired action - ACTION - yes, but tired, not to say sluggish. Those. necessary in its implementation, but performed, as it were, purely out of a sense of duty. Obligations...
