Yevhen Shapovalov is a talented painter and graphic artist who works with different materials in genres: still-life, landscape, nude, portrait, abstraction.
It was always very important for him to find his own unique style. According to the artist's favorites and teachers are masters of different periods of the twentieth century - Francis Bacon, Willem de Kooning, Egon Schiele. As an graphic-artist, Yevhen learned a lot from them - the escape from realism to broken lines, planes, to an abstract solution. "There should be harmony even in distorted forms" Yevhen is convinced.
Many of his work he builds on the comparison, the imposition of different planes. In landscapes painted in oil, these wide colored planes with a clear geometry, denoting a house, road or sky, move the image toward abstraction.
But this laconic form he generously replenishes with color. The paintings are rich in color nuances, colorful streams and liquid texture strokes.
Likewise, still lifes painted in oil are made with graphic broken lines in a contrasting color scheme and gravitate toward abstraction.
Yevhen's favorite materials are paper and pastel. Here he fully gives vent to his imagination, creatively approaches the plot. Having a certain color, pastel paper is the ideal background on which still life and genre scenes are built. Leaving entire sections of the sheet blank, the artist delineates objects, denotes planes with a light contour, which then fills with pastel strokes - sometimes light, through which the background looks, sometimes shaded, dense. Objects then acquire a density, then dissipate by a colored fog. Playing thus on the difference of invoices, he reaches the maximum expressiveness of the depicted, creates an exquisite unusual reality.
The series "nude" continues this beautiful linear series on paper. It looks like a graphic symphony, a sounding female body, where alternately the lines dominate, then the soft, veil-like color. A dense one-color background favorably shades the entire rich palette of pastel shades.
