KyivGallery Art Critic Art critic's review 11/09/2018

Oleh Lunov fills the canvas with a bright golden color and with a brush movement complements the background with lines and spots throughout the plane. With its rhythm and color, the artist's painting resembles Gustav Klimt's compositional decisions, to which Oleh Lunov does not object: "Some of my paintings are frankly imitating Klimt's style. But I don’t see anything wrong with comparing you to a talented master." Klimt's Echo in the artworks of Oleg can be seen not only in color. In the paintings of the Ukrainian artist, we see the same sad mood inherent in the modern era, a certain flatness of the image and decorativeism.

The artist is also keen on Vrubel, Renoir, Schiele, and the influence of these artists affects rather from the inside, unconsciously, “at the level of separate strokes,” as he says.

Oleh Lunov mainly paints landscapes and portraits. The artworks are distinguished by sophistication, craftsmanship and exquisite lightness of composition, as if understatement. Landscapes are like piece of jewelry, where the freedom and confidence of the master is visible. In the portraits, the central characters are beautiful girls painted in light watercolor technique.

Usually, artists are divided into professionals and amateurs, but Oleh Lunov does not draw such a boundary, saying: "I respect everyone who takes brush in his hand."
