Painting “On the native land (Triptych)” (2017)
A series of artworks "TOTEM" creates a new mythology that reveals the eternal ontological perspective - the problem of human existence.
Stork appears as an image of a man who personified the Pandora's ancient Greek analogy in the Ukrainian apocrypha. A man must have fulfilled his mission in God's choice or call. But eternal human curiosity and distrust transformed his life into an eternal test. According to the legend, without throwing a bug with the enslaved injustice, and looking into it, the man released evil and various snakes to the ground. Since then, turned into a bird, he is doomed to collect them everywhere.
My totem is mankind and eternal human values. Perhaps this is precisely why stork is associated with the image of nationality and Ukrainianity. This is a bird that lives next to humans, a bird that reflects us and our society, our essential nature and inner way.
My Stork is the image of an indescribable soul that aspires to heaven, but is tied to the earth.
The paintings of the artist Ihor Melnyk are an example of the constant creative search and unleashing the potential of various techniques. Forms that are created by the artist combine expressive form and strong, sometimes contrasting color images. Actually, thanks to this, the reflection of the richness of the pictorial language dominates in paintings, where there are melodic intonations and complex visual polyphony.
